Celebrating the Spring Equinox at Babington House

Celebrating the Spring Equinox at Babington House

Last week, I was delighted to spend the Spring Equinox hosting a vase painting workshop at the beautiful Babington House in Frome. We began the workshop by exploring the acrylic painting motifs inspired by folk art and traditional decorative arts, something I love reading about especially the arts and crafts movement and traditional ways of pattern painting.

We worked through these motifs step by step to explore the shapes, scale and colour before choosing our favourites to construct a pattern design with. Some of the group worked in mono colour which I always find (especially a cobalt blue) gives a natural feel of folk and decorative arts, and others worked applying a base colour to the vases or working in a varied colour palette to reflect their own personal style.

The workshop was a wonderful way to spend the Equinox, sharing the morning with a group of like-minded creative women exploring colour, print and pattern to decorate our very own vases ready for the new season’s flowers and chatting all things seasonal living.

I’d also bought lots of bunches of cheerful British-grown daffodils, (a sure sign of the season) to give to each of the attendees as the workshop ended so they could fill their vases with gorgeous spring joy as soon as they got home!

If you fancy vase painting I’d highly recommend the Hobbycraft Bud Vases, these were kindly supplied by Hobbycraft for the session and are glazed inside making them water safe. And if you are looking for some painting inspiration and tips, I have lots of online workshops available to join each month with all past sessions also available to buy.
