Notes from the Studio- April

Welcoming April

As we head through the first full month of Spring I wanted to share a few ideas to creatively connect with the season and celebrate all the month has to offer…

  • If you’re looking for creative Easter inspiration I’ve shared a DIY tutorial with Hobbycraft showing you how to paint simple floral motifs and decorate ceramics eggs! If you fancy a more sustainable option, this technique would also look great on real/wooden or cardboard egg cutouts.

  • Hosting guests this Easter? This simple folding technique for napkins makes the cutest table settings, you could always use a chocolate egg in the middle if you didn’t have time to make the pressed floral eggs. Just fold your napkin in half to a triangle and roll it into a folded strip, wrap it around the egg and secure it at the top with twine to make your bunny ears.

  • A simple joy but something that always puts a smile on my face on my morning walks is looking for the month’s nature, and this month it’s all about Blossom. Head out blossom spotting one day, you’ll be amazed at how uplifting it is seeing it against those blue skies! We’ve been sharing lots of nature inspiration in my creative Facebook group, do join and share your blossom pictures if you’re interested in simple creative living.

  • Have a play with foraging and printing clay. Gather some nature and make imprints into air dry clay to make trinket dishes or clay decorations to hang. I’ve found the best things to imprint with are already flat so think about looking for detailed leaves, mini ferns, foliage and herbs to press with. To make holes in your clay, just pop a straw through so you can string through some twine and hang once dry!

  • Looking for something creative to enjoy over the bank holidays, I’ve added all of the past 2023 creative workshops to my website so they can be enjoyed at any time throughout the year. From floral painting, to brush lettering, monotone painting and coloured pencil drawing there’s something for anyone who wants to try a new creative skill.

  • Head out for an impromptu woodland picnic, we took some hurriedly made sandwiches, a couple of slices of malt loaf (my newest obsession) and a flask of tea up to our local woodland, perched ourselves on some logs and enjoyed an alfresco woodland lunch.
